Avocado Fun With Rose Riseman

Those of you who follow me on twitter know that I often tweet links to healthy eating articles, although looking at me you’d be very doubtful that I follow the advice that I tweet out.

One of the foods I enjoy, and have mentioned in my tweets, are avocados, so I was quite thrilled when I was contacted and invited to an avocado tweetup with food expert Rose Reisman and Miss Ava Cado. The evening was spent learning about some of the many health benefits of avocados, new recipes that used avocados in ways I would’ve never thought of and, of course, eating some amazing food.

I usually eat avocados in sandwiches or, as most people, made into guacamole, nothing exciting. That night Rose made a number of very easy and delicious dishes including a baby kale salad with an avocado dressing, a Thai shrimp cake with avocado mango salsa and a brownie and frosting that included avocado. I don’t have a sweet tooth at all but the brownie AND it’s frosting was what impressed me the most.  The brownie was very moist and not too sweet. One of Rose’s baking tips was that when baking one could easily reduce the amount of sugar called for in a recipe by 25% without it being missed.

Everyone who was invited was asked to submit a recipe that included avocado, I submitted a recipe for a shrimp, avocado and mango salad. At the end of the night we were given copies of the recipes that Rose made, as well as all of the recipes that were submitted. We were also given a package of shortbread cookies that were made with avocado and a cookie stamper. On my way home that night I read through some of the submitted recipes and I was surprised how easily avocados can be used in place of the fat needed in certain dishes.

I have to thank Rose Reisman and Miss Ava Cado for inviting me to this event. It was very informative and very filling.

*I apologize for the lack of pictures in this post. My SD card somehow got corrupted and I lost all my pictures and a number of lengthy interviews I had conducted for future articles.
