When our kids were younger traveling was easier but boring. Easier because they were so easily entertained, boring because they were so easily entertained! Now that they’re older we’re finally able to participate in activities that parents with younger kids may pass on. A couple of weeks ago we were in Key West and we decided to try parasailing for the first time. When the kids were younger we would never have thought of doing this.
I had partnered with the folks at Florida Keys And Key West for a visit and they hooked us up with some VIP passes which allowed us to book the parasailing session. We reached out to Fury Water Adventures after reading about their stellar service and how much fun people had had on their excursions. Fury has been in operation for almost 30 years and offers something for everyone, from sunset cruises, morning and afternoon snorkeling trips, glass bottom boat rides, dolphin watching, kayaking and even an all-day-on-the-water Ultimate Adventure.
When we got to the boat I didn’t know what to expect. Yes I’ve seen people doing it but that was all with my feet firmly planted on the ground. When we got to the boat we were met by Chris and Guiseppe. What I really liked about these two guys was how engaging they were with the guests on the boat. They were very informative and made us laugh the whole time, which I’m sure comes in handy with the first-timers. We were definitely put at ease (a little)!
Guests on these parasailing trips usually fly two or three at a time. First up were my daughter and I. Chris strapped us in, Giuseppe gunned the engine and before you knew it we were soaring high above the ocean. On a clear day you can see up to 14 miles away. It wasn’t that clear but still the views were breathtaking.
They sent us up a few hundred feet above the water. What really surprised me was how smooth and quiet it was up there, actually the boat ride was a much rougher and noisier ride. If you’re nervous about parasailing my advice is to just go for it! I did get a little anxious as we were going up but once we were in the sky it was actually relaxing. We were up there for about 15 minutes, but the time just flew by.
My wife and son went next. I was a little worried about him because he has a fear of heights. I remember when he was younger he used to be so unhappy when we went over bridges but when they came back he was ecstatic. He absolutely enjoyed himself!
If you’re ever in Key West, or anywhere else for that matter, and you get the opportunity to go parasailing you should definitely seize the opportunity, I’m sure the views would be stunning and the experience itself would be very memorable.

Parasailing is something I’ve always wanted to try but been too scared to do because of the height. If your son can do it, so can I! Putting it back on the bucket list. Awesome pictures!

You should definitely try it. You’d be surprised how relaxing it is.
Lucky you to have teenagers at an age where you are still YOUNG. 🙂 I can’t imagine myself doing this with our Mikey when I’m in my 60s. Love the photos… wish it was me up in the air!

It was an amazing experience. And don’t worry about being older, kids have a way of making us all feel younger.
Hi Davindra,
Great post! I had no idea that parasailing with teens could be such fun!! Something I would definitely consider 🙂
Thanks for sharing.
Best regards,
